Academy Award–winning director Chloé Zhao finds herself back in the awards race thanks to Hamnet, an exquisite historical drama that offers up a different look at the life of William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal). Instead, it's on his wife Agnes (a stellar Jessie Buckley), whose connection to nature and strange visions defy convention. But when Agnes and her husband lose their youngest son, Hamnet (Jacobi Jupe), the pair weather their grief in vastly different ways, resulting in the kind of film the word "heart-wrenching" was invented for.
